In August 2019, Vemo 99 Ltd was successfully re-certified according to the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standard for animal feed additives. This give us a confidence that our high-quality products meet the high European market requirements. Thus, we have the opportunity to establish our feed additive products as  a standard of high quality on the market.

In the beginning of the millennium, the  issue  of  food  safety  became  particularly  important  for  European  consumers. The European Union Commissioner for Health and Consumers  Protection by that time,  David  Byrne,  indicated  that  “Food  safety  is  my  No  1  priority, and I am setting about ensuring that Europe has the highest standards for our consumers”.

In order to achieve this objective, the European Commission published a ‘White Paper  on  Food  Safety’  on  the  12th  January  2000,  which  set  out  a  co-ordinated  approach  to  food  safety  across  the  EU,  and  included  the  establishment  of  a  new  European  Food  Safety  Authority  (EFSA),  with  specific  responsibility  to  ‘ensure  a  high level of human health and consumer protection’. The White Paper also clearly identified  ‘the  whole  of  the  food  chain,  including  animal  feed  production’,  and  attributed   the   ‘primary   responsibility   for   safe   food   production   to   industry,   producers and suppliers’.

The GMP+ Feed Safety Assurance is a certification scheme developed to guarantee feed safety and reassure consumers about the responsible way animal feed products are produced, processed, traded, stored and transported around the world.

As of 1st January 2006, the Animal Feed Hygiene Regulations (Regulation (EC) 183/2005) has been effective in Europe. The regulation includes requirement relating to hygienic handling of animal feed and it determines that all activities of animal feed production should be covered under scope and shall apply HACCP principles, as a tool for preparing and implementing the system. Thus, GMP+ certification is in high demand by the market – especially amongst European countries – for certification of the feed supply chain.
